The BSO Berne Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1877. The orchestra is therefore amongst the oldest and biggest ones in Switzerland.

More than 100 musicians are part of the orchestra. Renowned international guest conductors like Bruno Walter, Willhelm Furtwängler, Ernest Ansermet, Hans Knappertsbusch and later on Günther Herbig, Eliahu Inbal oder Pietari Inkinen as well as famous soloists have contributed to foster the orchestra’s reputation also outside Switzerland. Since the season 2010/11 famous Swiss conductor Mario Venzago is Maestro in Berne.
