The Julius Baer Lifestyle Index 2013: The cost of luxurious living
The Julius Baer Lifestyle Index, now in its third year, tracks the price of a basket of luxury goods and services, indicating the true cost of living in luxury. With this year’s Wealth Report, we initiate the data collection that forms the basis for a new Julius Baer Lifestyle Index, expanding from the original four cities, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Mumbai.
With the new edition, we have added Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Bangkok, Manila, Seoul and Tokyo which, in effect, means that the Julius Baer Lifestyle Index will offer far more comprehensive insights into the cost of living for the region’s high net worth individuals.
Julius Baer Lifestyle Index rose 8.0% in 2013. The cost of living in luxury for Asia’s High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) continues to outpace standard measures of inflation, albeit at a slightly slower pace than what was seen in 2012, according to the Julius Baer Lifestyle Index which is compiled as part of the annual Julius Baer Wealth Report.
Methodology: Julius Baer Lifestyle Index
The Julius Baer Lifestyle Index is based on a basket of 20 luxury goods and services that represent discretionary purchases of HNWI* in the region. Current prices, as well as for one year review, for these were sourced from local high-end vendors across four major Asia cities: Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Mumbai.
